Please See These Frequently Asked Question in Regards to Our Program & Application Submission
This program is free to you and your school. The only cost involved is purchasing materials such as yoga mat, blocks, strap and recommended books. Please see the Material List.
What will this cost my principal?
If the program is after school, why does my principal
need to approve?
At this time, your principal will need to know that you are participating in the program, and provide you the opportunity to share practices with colleagues and students in the future.
Our School day ends at 2:50 and by the time I commute
home, it is 4:15-4:30pm, am I still eligible to apply and
attend this cohort?
Consider discussing with your Principal the program time requirements. If possible, your principal may adjust your schedule to accommodate you attending the program.
Yes, you are required to participate in the program as scheduled 80 hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 4:00- 7:00 P.M. and November 2, 8:30-2:30 P.M.
Additionally, you are required to participate in 1-2 live YMTPP facilitated
yoga practices a week for a total of 15 yoga practice hours.
80+15=95 hours
Do I need to participate in all the hours?
What does it mean “expected to participate in YMTPP events and live stream”?
Participants of Cohort 2 are expected to share their knowledge and practices with their school community, within their BCO and possibly citywide.
You are expected to participate in YMTPP events after the training is complete. This may include presenting at a day of mindfulness, or leading a practice at an event.
Will I be a Certified Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance?
The 95 Hour Schools Based Practices Certification is through the NYCDOE. These hours do not carry over into the 200 hour Yoga Alliance teacher certification. The 95 hour and 200 hour programs are two separate certification programs.
You will be able to submit the 95 hr School based Practices to the Yoga Alliance once you complete the 200 hour certification.
Do I have to remain at the same school assignment for the duration of the program?
As long as you are a DOE employee and on payroll you may remain in the program.
I am pregnant, am I still able to participate?
Yes. Please let the lead facilitator know and modify your practice accordingly.
I have previously scheduled meetings during some of the scheduled time, Am I still eligible to participate?
Attendance and participation are required for certification. Please consult with program staff further regarding your schedule conflicts.
I have an old injury and I am unable to do some yoga poses, may I still participate?
It is YMTPP’s philosophy that yoga and mindfulness are accessible to everyone. Please modify the poses as necessary. Listen to your body and practice within your own limits. Also, please let the facilitators know so they may offer modifications as needed.
