Yoga Warm-Up:

1/2 Spinal Twist

Benefits:

 

Opens the rib cage and chest

Energizes the spine

Stretches the hips, spine, shoulders, neck

Instructions:

 

Begin seated in staff pose with the legs stretched out in front of you and the hands resting on the thighs or beside the hips with along spine.

Bend the right leg so the heel comes close to the body. We will call this position 1.

An option would be to step the foot of the bent knee over the left leg to position 2.

Another option would be to lean to the left and fold the left leg so the heel comes outside the right hip. This is position 3.

Bring the left arm alongside the ear and sit very tall.

Twist toward the right knee and take the elbow to the outside of the right knee or wrap the left arm around the right shin.

Continue to twist and look around to back of where you are sitting.

To come out of the twist, gently unwind and carefully unfold the legs back to staff pose.
