Mindful De-Escalation

Mindful De-Escalation was created by YMTP² to address many of the social emotional needs of school communities. The professional learning is designed to provide a mindful framework to understand and focus on improving behavior prevention, intervention and response. Participants will learn how to deepen their ability to teach students coping strategies, improving the quality of relationships, and guide students through mindful interventions to make more adaptive choices.  Offerings can be provided in 2 hour sessions for each part or as a full day session with all parts, virtually or in person.

Mindful De-Escalation is comprised of 3 parts that enhance behavioral understanding, support and response.

In Part 1 participants will learn foundational concepts of mindfulness, de-escalation, and behavior. Participants will be provided with mindful breathing strategies that support self-regulation and can be integrated into the classroom experience.

In Part 2 participants will learn how to mindfully intervene and support students at each stages of a crisis, how to communicate with students reflectively, and will be provided mindful breathing strategies that deepen their ability to self-regulate.

In Part 3 participants will learn about power struggles and how to mindfully interrupt them. Participants will incorporate learning from Parts 2 and 3 to be able to engage in a mindful conversation that helps students build self-awareness and choose more adaptive coping strategies in managing their own behavior.
